VAN DER VALK HOTEL
Location: Groningen-Westerbroek, the Netherlands
Looking for an artistic point of view, Van der Valk hotel Groningen-Westerbroek sought out Katarina Stupavska to design wallpapers, room dividers, wall panels and rugs for their hospitable hotel in North of The Netherlands.
In contrast to the classic picturesque and industrial area, the interior proves to be a different world. Westerbroek is a natural oasis to escape busy Groningen and enter the fantasy of printed decor. Katarina transforms the hotel owner’s already existing legacy and the hotel weapon from 1939 into the metal room dividers. For the boardrooms, these were hand drawn and eventually lasered while the same patterns were printed for the wallpapers. Geometric custom rugs cover the floor and bring all the colours and patterns together. In the restaurant the owners wished to show their prized possession which is the family weapon mixed with the golden-age paintings in the royal colour palette.
